What are Moms Saying about the Medela Freestyle Breast Pump?

Medela Freestyle Reviews from Moms Using it:

Best Pump, Worth the Money

The Medela Freestyle Breast pump is great. My husband and I did a ton of research on pumps that would be easy for me to use at home and discrete enough for me to carry in my work bag, this is it. Although I have never used a hospital grade pump I can tell you that this pump works great. It is small and you can move about with it if you use the hands free kit. The pump and its parts are also easy to clean as the membranes for this pump are a lot bigger than the other Medela pumps which makes it easier to clean and handle. I don’t know why any parent on the go would invest in another pump.

Love this Pump!!!

I love this pump! The hands free option and dual pumping is awesome! It has made my life with a two month old so much easier. I am able to pump and do things around the house or tend to him at the same time. I was using a Medela single pump before and I was not able to get as much out in 15 minutes as I am with the Medela Freestyle. It is well worth the extra money in time savings. I was having a problem with because my milk supply would be low in the evenings but after using the Medela Freestyle breast pump for just a few days I was able to store up a lot more milk for when I return to work. I would highly recommend this pump to anyone that would like to increase their milk supply, freeze milk, and pump hands free.

This Tiny Pump is awesome!

I was using the huge electric pump which I got from the hospital for five months. It was really uncomfortable and expensive. I was always thinking of buying another pump. When I saw the Medela Freestyle Breast Pump on Amazon with excellent customer reviews, I bought one straightaway. This pump is simply awesome and works great. The breast shields are softer and pliable, which makes the whole process comfortable. I can even read a magazine while expressing milk.

Here are the disadvantages of the Medela Freestyle Breast Pump:

Some Moms felt the bag that is provided with the Freestyle should have been bigger because it has a very tight fit when all the accessories are loaded in the bag. Most moms seemed to use their own bags for the pump so this was not an issue for them.

Accessories and replacement parts for the Freestyle pump are not available in local retail stores. Accessories for the pump must be ordered online.

Is the Philips Avent Isis IQ Duo Breast Pump

Right For You?

Here are the benefits of the Avent Isis IQ Duo Breast Pump:

The Avent Isis IQ Duo has unique patented massage cushions that attach to the flange that flex in and out while pumping. This simulates the baby’s natural suckling action and is one of the key features that helps to stimulate a fast and natural let down. This also makes the pumping experience more comfortable for Mom.

While many other automatic breast pumps have presets for Speed and Suction control, the Avent Isis IQ Duo has infinitely variable speed, vacuum, and rhythm controls. This allows Moms to fine tune each of these controls to match her ideal pumping pattern and her baby’s unique suckling action.

In addition to the infinite speed, vacuum, and rhythm control settings, one of the other major features that sets this breast pump apart from others is its Electronic Memory Control system. Once you’ve identified your ideal pumping rhythm, you simply press a button and the memory control system learns, records, and automates it. This allows you to maintain a consistent natural pumping rhythm each time that is exactly right for you.

The Twin electronic pumps in the Avent Isis IQ Duo allows for single or double pumping. What makes this pump unique however is that it is the only breast pump designed to maintain the same level of vacuum and control in both pumps. This ensures effective use while double pumping, which is shown to improve milk production.

The Avenet Isis IQ Duo has a unique control system that places all pump controls at your fingertips and close to the breast. This allows Moms to make adjustments to the pump instantly while pumping and without having to reach somewhere else and remove their hand from their breast. This also allows you to find the ideal settings for the pump quicker as its done in the process of pumping.

Many pumps require separate pumping, storage, and feeding containers. The Philips Avent Isis IQ Duo allows you to pump, store, and feed your baby with the same container. This is an excellent feature as it helps to preserve valuable nutrients that can sometimes be lost when being transferred. In addition, it helps reduce the number of steps that would normally be involved in making the various transitions and keeps the entire process cleaner.

Moms can feel confident about the safety of their breast milk as the Philips Avent Isis IQ Duo is BPA-Free. This is a key safety feature to look for in a breast pump.

==>Click Here to Save $149.00 on the Avent Isis IQ DuoBreast Pump at Amazon<==

What Are Moms saying about the Avent Isis IQ Duo Breast Pump?

Philips Avent Isis IQ Duo Breast Pump reviews from Moms using it:

LOVE THIS PUMP!

I have been using the Philips Avent Isis IQ Duo breast pump for four months now and I absolutely love it. I honestly have nothing bad to say about it. When I was looking for a breast pump I visited my local lactation station operated by a registered nurse and the leading lactation specialist in my city. I asked her for advice and was told the Avent Isis IQ Duo Breast Pump is the only breast pump she carries because its the best pump on the market.

This pump is quiet, powerful, easy to clean, and easy to pack and carry. I really like all of the accessories that come with the pump. Of all the baby product purchases I have made, this has been the best one so far.

I Love This Pump – It’s lasted me through 3 children

I very rarely write product reviews, but I LOVE the Philps Avent Isis IQ Duo Breast Pump! When my first child was born I tried a different very popular pump. I had a difficult time trying to adjust the suction and speed on the pump while trying to keep the cups from popping off of my chest. I love the Avent Isis IQ Duo because you utilize the hand pump to establish your rhythm and then push the blue button and it takes over from there, all without removing your hands from the bottles. I regularly pump 13 ounces in only 15 minutes. It is also so comfortable!

5 years later, I love it even more because it has lasted this long. I pumped for 8 months full time with my first child, 10 months full time with my second child, and now 10 months part-time with my third child and it is still going strong.

Best on the Market

The Avent Isis IQ Duo Breast Pump is the best on the market! While I was in the hospital for a C-section I had the opportunity to use the hospital’s electric pump for five days. It was good but seemed to leak a lot. I thought as a first time mom that I may have been doing something incorrectly. I bought the Avent breast pump because my cousin highly recommended it plus I received Avent bottles at my baby shower and they fit right on so I could pump directly into them. SUPER Convenient.

This breast pump is well worth every penny. It is quiet, easy to use, easy to clean, and very comfortable. The inserts for the breast covers of the pump make it super comfortable and helps prevents leakage. I also take it to work with me. Get this Pump. Its so reliable and it’s one less thing you have to worry about . You will not regret it. Love it!

This is one of the key benefits that has made this pump a hit with Moms.

Is the Medela Pump In Style Right for You?

Here’s the benefits of the Medela Pump in Style Breast Pump:

The Medela Pump in Style is a very powerful pump. Moms that have used both Medela’s hospital-grade pump, the “Symphony”, and the Pump in Style breast pump have said that they can’t really tell the difference in power and performance. This is great for working Moms or Moms pumping several times a day because it allows them to complete their pumping faster.

Mom’s that have used more than one pump rave about the speed of expressing milk. The Pump in Style’s exclusive 2-Phase Expression technology allows Moms to express more milk in less time. It also allows you to switch back and forth between the stimulation and expression phase.

The Medela Pump in Style includes a battery pack which makes it very portable and great for pumping on the go. You will not be limited to pumping in the car and will have anywhere/anytime pumping capability.

What are Moms saying about the Pump in Style Breast Pump?

Medela Pump in Style reviews from Moms using it:

Terrific Pump!

After agonizing for a while on picking the right breast pump, I settled on the Medela Pump in Style Breast Pump and am so very pleased. I utilized a Medela Symphony rental previously and was convinced that any publicly available breast pump would be inferior, but boy was I wrong. The Pump in Style is so much better. It is very lightweight and portable. It has excellent suction and actually pumps more milk and is faster than the hospital grade pump…

Awesome!!!

I’m a second time exclusively breastfeeding Mom. My boys are almost four years old and eight months old. With my oldest son I rented a pump from the hospital and he nursed for over two years. I figured it would be cheaper to purchase a pump this time. I tried a less expensive pump and it didn’t cut it. The Medela Pump in Style breast pump could only be better if it produced the milk for you. LOL. It’s a really wonderful pump. Yes it is expensive but I learned the hard way that being cost efficient when buying a breast pump is not the best choice. My previous pump had me thinking there was something wrong with my supply but it was actually the pump…

Best Breast Pump – Must Have for all Working Women

This product is Amazing. I breastfeed full time and do not use any supplements like Similac. I’m returning to work within a few days and was looking for an effective breast pump that would take less time, was comfortable to use, and was lightweight. The Medela Pump in Style breast pump was recommended at a breastfeeding class I attended so I bought it. This pump has almost the same power like the Symphony breast pump I tried at the hospital. It has very easy to fit accessories and the motor is very strong. This is a must have for every breast feeding Mom…

Here are the reported disadvantages of the Pump in Style pump:

The breast shields that are included with the Pump did not provide the ideal fit for some Moms so they were required to purchase additional breast shields for a better fit. While the breast shields are relatively inexpensive some Moms felt it would be better if more sizes were included with the pump.

The Pump in Style breast pump is not hands free by design. Many Moms have found easy workarounds either by buying a hands free pumping bra or by modifying an existing bra to resolve this issue.

What are Moms saying about the Lansinoh Affinity Double Electric Breast Pump?

Lansinoh Affinity Reviews from Moms using it:

GREAT breast pump!!!

I recently purchased the Lansinoh Affinity Breast Pump after my second child was born. I was immediately impressed by how much milk it drew out in such a short period. It offers multiple settings for comfort and need. I was able to pump out twice as much milk as I did with my old pump! In addition to how much more efficient the Affinity is, it is half the cost of my old pump! Lansinoh makes awesome and affordable pumps. I’d highly recommend the Lansinoh Affinity Breast Pump.

Great Product & Outstanding Customer Service

I bought the Lansinoh Affinity breast pump because of the design that doesn’t allow milk to back up into the tubing. It doesn’t make an annoying beeping sound like some of the other pumps do.I love the suction and speed settings which make the pump customizable. The flanges that came with the pump didn’t fit me properly so I emailed customer service to find out where I could locate a larger size and to my surprise a complimentary pair of large size flanges arrived on my doorstep less than 24 hours later! That’s fantastic customer service. I will continue buying Lansinoh products.

Love this pump!

What a great pump! I had the Medela single electric before and I am really enjoying the Lansinoh Affinity Breast Pump even more. I think the suction is great and it adjusts really well. I love that the milk doesn’t go in the tubing and it is a closed system. It is easy to clean and easy to use.

Here are the Reported Disadvantages of the Affinity Pump:

Some Moms said that the provided flanges didn’t fit their size and they had to purchase additional breast flanges. The extra flanges are relatively inexpensive, however some felt that bigger sizes should be included with the pump.

Moms have reported that when using the pump’s battery mode the pumps suction is not as powerful. They stated the pump still gets the job done but the suction is not as good as when using A/C power.

Why Are Moms Raving About the

Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump?

Here are the benefits of using the Purely Yours Breast Pump:

Moms respond differently to different pumping patterns and these patterns can change over time. The Ameda Custom Control System features separate suction and speed control dials which will allow you to adjust the pump to give you the best performance for your individual needs. You can also adjust this as your needs change over time. For more details on the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump Custom Control System see the video below.

In order to get the best milk flow and to be as comfortable as possible while pumping it is very important that you utilize a properly fitting Flange. The Ameda Custom Flange Fit system allows you to choose from a total of 32 combinations. This will ensure that you get the best milk flow and are comfortable while pumping. For more details on the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump Custom Flange Fit System see the video below.

It is critical to ensure that your pumped breast milk is not contaminated by bacteria, mold, and viruses. Mold and bacteria can easily grow in breast pump tubing when moisture gets trapped in it. The Ameda Airlock Protection System protects pumped milk from contaminants that may be present in the breast pump or tubing. An added benefit is that is also prevents milk from backing up into the tubing if the milk bottle is turned on it’s side or turned upside down. For additional details on the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump Airlock Protection System see the video below.

The Purely Yours Breast Pump is relatively easy to maintain. The Airlock Protection System limits the parts of the pump that come in contact with milk and also prevents milk from backing up into the tubing which can be difficult to clean. Ameda has also limited the number of detachable parts on the pump which minimizes the components that require cleaning.

In addition to the AC Adapter, the Purely Yours Breast Pump also can be operated by battery or the included car adapter. The pump is also very lightweight compared to others in its class. This makes it very portable and convenient for working Moms or Moms on the go.

Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump reviews from Mom’s using it:

Finally!!! A pump that makes the grade!

I have never written a review before for anything I’ve purchased but I felt compelled to let those of you who are looking to buy a breast pump know that THIS IS IT! I have purchased two pumps prior to buying the Ameda Purely Yours Breast pump and have not had satisfactory results. My first pump stopped “sucking” after only one week. The second pump I actually loved and used when I was at home full-time but it was not powerful enough when I returned to school full-time. When it was time to buy a double electric breast pump, I read just about every review online, trying to find the best one. I’m so happy I decided to go with the purely yours pump. It is absolutely wonderful! The pump is quiet and fast. I’m able to pump about 6 to 8 ounces in less than 15 Minutes. It is also very comfortable…

Great Breast Pump!!

I really like the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pumping system. I was started on it while my son was in the hospital for nine days after he was born and I have been using it ever since. As I am a Nurse, I was able to try one of the other leading breast pumps which I found a lot harder to clean. I found that there is a much lower risk of having the milk enter the breast pump with the Ameda.

I have used my Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump in my car and many other situations during the 8 1/2 months pumping. It is lightweight with a lot of power. I take it back and forth to work with me and I take it when I travel…

Excellent Pump!

When my son was born, the Lactation Specialist at the hospital highly recommended the Ameda Purely Yours Breast pump. She has a lot of experience with pumps and I am glad I trusted her opinion.

What I really like is that the milk does not back up into the tubes which would mean I have to clean out the tubes which I hear is a nightmare. In addition, there are very few parts to clean which makes cleanup quick and easy.

The suction power of the purely yours breast pump is great. The suction ranges from very hard and rapid to soft and slow. I consistently got about 8 Oz of milk after 20 minutes pumping…

Here are the reported disadvantages of the Purely Yours Pump:

While the Custom Control System on the Ameda Purely Yours Pump provides great flexibility for finding the right setting that work best for you, many Moms have reported struggling for a couple days at first adjusting the suction and speed controls. Usually after the first few days this is no longer an issue and they are happy to have the controls as their pumping patterns change.

The sound generated by this breast pump would not be considered loud but when pumping in a public place the sounds generated by the motor while pumping is noticeable.

What Are Moms Saying About this Lansinoh Breast Pump?

Lansinoh Double Electric Breast Pump Reviews from Moms using it:

Excellent Pump at a Great Price!

I purchased my Lansinoh double Electric Breast Pump a little over a year ago after doing a lot of research on all of the available breast pumps on the market. I work full time so a good pump was an absolute must for me.

The Lansinoh breast pump has really stood up to the test. I only recently weaned my one year old daughter, and I was able to pump enough milk to for her for the entire year while working. The pump worked just as good on my last pumping session as it did on my first session. It is extremely easy to use and VERY easy to clean which is an absolute must if you are pumping at work. I love that no milk or condensation develops in the tubes which is a major problem with other pumps. It was easy to assemble during my short pumping breaks at work and it is very light which made it easy to carry back and forth each day…

Great for Daily Pumping at Work, Efficient, & Quiet

I have used the Lansinoh Double Electric Breast pump every day at work for two months. I am able to get 4 ounces of breast milk three times during my 8 hour shift. It only takes 15 minutes at most. I can not say enough about this breast pump. It is Fantastic. I’m sure that some of the Medela pumps are just as good but I’m glad I didn’t pay the higher price to get one of their models especially as the Lansinoh breast pump works so wonderfully. It is very quiet compared to other pumps that I’ve tried and has Great suction. I only have it turned up to around 40% and that is all that is needed to get the job done very quickly. This pump is also very lightweight…

Excellent Breast Pump, Especially for the Price

I used the Lansinoh Double Electric Breast pump to increase my milk production after my baby was born. It worked Wonderfully. In a week I was producing plenty of milk for my baby and she got fat in no time. I could not imagine doing all of that pumping with a manual pump or a single electric pump. I had an opportunity to compare the hospital pump with the Lansinoh pump when I had to pump for my baby at the hospital and in my opinion the Lansinoh pump was just as good. I highly recommend this product!

Here are the disadvantages of the Lansinoh Double Electric Pump:

While the Lansinoh Double Electric Breast pump is very portable, it does not include a carrying bag like most of the other pumps in its class. Many Moms however have reported simply using the free hospital supplied baby bag or purchasing an inexpensive bag for use with their pump.

In the event you need spare parts or accessories for the Lansinoh Double Electric breast pump you likely will not be able to find the parts in local stores and will be required to order it online.

Good/bad experiences with the Avent Isis breast pump?

Which breast pump is better? Avent or Medela swing?

I’ve been doing some research on electronic breast pumps as I will be needing one when my little one is 1month when I will be at university and leaving baby with mother in law. It seems to me that these two brands have been given excellent reviews. I do not want to spend too much, and these two are both under £100.

I’ve used both the Avent electric (IQ) and Medela Swing, and out of those two recommend the swing 100%- the IQ was inefficient at milk let down and I just got sore, rather than managed a good expression. The swing mimicks let down, then has a good, natural suck which really helps extract the milk.

That said, if you have around £100 to spend and need a pump that is portable then the Ameda Lactaline is about the best pump you can buy for just over £100- it’s a double pump which obviously halves your pumping time and also is much more effective than single pumping. I recommend this pump above all others for the budget you have.

Avent Isis IQ Uno electric and Medela Swing Breastpumps?

I’m expecting in a couple months and am starting to look at breast pumps (so i can still have a bit of me time after a couple months, as well as for when i go back to work) I’m looking for your opinions on each of these pumps. I saw that they both have pretty good reviews and I’m quite undecided. Im planning on using the Avent bottles assuming my baby will like them, if that makes any difference. I realize it would be more convenient to just pump directly into the bottle ill be using, but i want a good pump, which is more important, hence why im asking.

Why did you like or dislike either of these pumps

I have a Medela Pump In Style and I love it. I use Breast Flow bottles by First Years & I will admit it is a pain to pump into the Medela containers and then have to pour it into the bottles she will take but I tried the Medela nipples with her & she would not eat her milk. Depending on when she ate last I can get anywhere from 5 to 9 oz in a pumping session with my Medela. I believe the Avent is slightly cheaper so I wish I would have researched more before I purchased the Medela but Medela is what my lactation consultation highly recommended.

As far as the other poster you can get different size breast shields for the Medela – not sure for the Avent I am currently a 38C and the 24mm medela breast shields work great for me. I like the harder plastic shields better than the softer flexible shields – I think those are caller personal fit or something. If you are going to be pumping a lot to get a supply for when you return to work I recommend getting an addition set of shields and all you need to pump that way you can have a clean set at all times. Another trick I have learned is that if you need milk for a bottle for some reason pump one side as you feed from one side.

I agree! Playtex drop ins are the best! They come in 4 and 8 oz sizes, which I LOVE!! And now you can get the breast pump compatible kit as well. I got it for my shower and I LOVE IT! You can attach it to almost any pump ( I have the Lansinoh manual, works GREAT with it), and you can store the milk in the liners. I usually stick it right into a bottle and pop it in the fridge for later. (She spends lots of time at Grandma’s!) I also love the Dropins system, because you can be sure your baby is getting NO AIR, and once baby is old enough to hold the bottle, you can buy the tri-cut nipples, which DON’T leak if the bottle is dropped. This means you don’t have to keep squeezing out the air.
Also, my baby had NO problem going from breast to bottle with the Playtex nipples.

Here is the link to the set that I have, it has everything you need to use the system with a breast pump.

I wash and reuse the liners, as well, to save money. They are pretty durable and can be used a couple of times.

Anyone use nursery sanitizer machines?

I’m researching the “Avent Micro Steam Sterilizer” and the “Germ Guardian Sanitizer” and was wondering what all you mommies think of them! I’ve read reviews saying the Germ Guardian is really small but easy to use, but you have to rinse AND dry everything before putting the things in. I wanted to get one of these because I’m basically exclusively pumping now and its just such a hassle to wash and dry breast pump pieces and bottles/nipples, but if I have to rinse AND dry everything I might as well just wash it myself right?

Do you have to rinse and dry for the other one?

I guess I just wish there was a mini dishwasher that I could just throw all the stuff in multiple times a day! Someone should invent that.
Mama Mia- Do you just rinse everything off, then put it in the sterilizer, then microwave the whole thing? Does it wash, sanitize/sterilize, AND dry for you so your stuff is ready to go?

Medela Makes sanitizer bags where you put your parts in and microwave for like 3 min and then you just set out to dry you can do your tubing and breast pumps and you can use them 20 times and they cost like 3 bucks for a pack of 3 or something like that!
Good luck

if it’s not a PIS *advanced* then it doesn’t have the “let down” feature.
Breastfeeding is VERY important. It saddens me that so many people don’t realize this. It has so many health benefits for mother and baby, I couldn’t even begin to name them all. But some include: lowers chance of breast cancer for mom and baby (if girl), resets moms body to the way it was prior to pregnancy (in regards to hormones, uterus, weight), It has also been linked to lowering heart disease for moms. I think everyone who has a child owes it to themselves and their babies to at least look at all of the benefits before disregarding it for formula.

Breastfeeding in Society Today ?

Hi Everyone,
I am a Nursing Student and I would like to conduct a survey for an important assignment on The Ethics of Breast Feeding
As some of you may all ready know Breastfeeding as become a major problem in society today in regards to public breastfeeding and breastfeeding/ pumping during work in Ireland breastfeeding its well implemented and I feel all public places in every country should have breastfeeding rooms were mothers can go breastfeed in a comfortable area out of the public eye and take the time to feed their babies without being judged etc. Also mothers who wish to go back to work who are are breastfeeding once their baby is born and giving up due to going back to work I feel employers should promote a breastfeeding policy in their workplace which would allow the mother pump milk in a comfortable area only for breastfeeding when ever needed.

Please Can I have your views and what you think?
Thank You All For Looking.

You all seem to think I have a problem with breastfeeding in public I certainly do not I live in Ireland and with that the Irish are very judgemental and Breastfeeding in public isn’t a hot topic with them overall we dont like seeing people breastfeeding alot of people I have come across even while breastfeeding my own 2 children felt it was rude and a public area wasnt the place with all walks of life strolling around you including children who wouldn’t know any different. I just feel that if the goverment over here were to implement a more breastfeeding awareness and policy in public areas and in the workplace alot more women would feel comfortable with breastfeeding. Yes, as a breastfeeding mother I have received a few remarks regarding Breastfeeding in public, and I too along with friends felt somewhere private to Breastfeed our children together in the one area so you meet other women also would of been a great aspect in Irish Society today.
I would like to inform people I am not suggesting a bathroom or toilet of breastfeeding it is highlty unethical and the hygiene factors in doing so. I simply suggesting a room of comfort.

I don’t view ANY breastfeeding as a problem. I think the only problem is the puritanical sort who are SO horrified by viewing the act of breastfeeding!!!!!!!!!! It’s beyond ridiculous.
A baby has the right to nurse anytime, anywhere, and the mommy should not have to hide in a stuffy little room or hide until a tent to do it!! As for others’ discomfort/sensibilities…. There are PLENTY of things I see in life that offend me or make me uncomfortable, and guess what I do?? I DO NOT LOOK. Simple.

Edit: Lucy’s Mummy, you are very lucky!! I had Sophie in Puerto Rico (military family), and that place is a literal bottle haven!! Sigh. The nurses were very aggressive, and gave her sugar water before she was brought to me, even though I wanted to nurse her! They kept offering formula too, and only my enraged growls kept them at bay!! LOL I’m so thankful I was still able to nurse without any issues!

Vote for Breastfeeding Promotion Act?

Ok since I need to ask a question to make this legit – here is my question – will you vote?
Tough economic times may be making it harder for women to breastfeed? Yes! According to a recent ABC news story, one of the fall-outs from the recession is that some new mothers are feeling forced to take shorter maternity leaves due to concerns about finances and job stability. Unfortunately, women who have to cut their maternity leave short often can’t continue to breastfeed their infants because many workplaces don’t adequately support breastfeeding.2 That’s a big problem when you consider that 56% of women with infants are now the in the labor force–we need common-sense workplace policies to make sure that moms who want to breastfeed can.

Act now for nursing moms by urging your Member of Congress to support the Breastfeeding Promotion Act:

Too many women are unable to breastfeed for the 6 months recommended by doctors and experts. This is often due to the fact that many workplace structures make this nearly impossible. While 74% of U.S. women breastfeed their infants at birth, only 12% are exclusively breastfeeding at six months as recommended by every major national and international medical authority.4 On average, rates of breastfeeding drop even lower for young and low-income mothers.5

Some mothers choose to stop breastfeeding but others don’t have a choice. Many women who work outside the home face significant barriers or outright discrimination in their efforts to breastfeed. Even well-intentioned employers may be unaware about how to accommodate nursing moms, leaving women using sheets to cover up in cubicles, cramming into bathroom stalls with breast pumps, or even hiding out in dingy supply rooms just to pump breast milk for their babies.

Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) recently introduced the Breastfeeding Promotion Act to support employers and nursing moms by:

* Providing tax incentives for businesses that establish private lactation areas in the workplace;
* Requiring employers to make reasonable efforts to provide appropriate space and break time for mothers to express milk;
* Protecting breastfeeding women from being fired or discriminated against in the workplace; and
* Allowing families to deduct the cost of breastfeeding equipment on their taxes, as is the case with other common medical expenses.6

Studies show that breastfeeding is good for babies, mothers and employers! Breastfed babies have a lower risk of infection, obesity, diabetes, and other health problems. This not only reduces a family’s healthcare costs (and anguish), it also reduces costs (and workplace interruptions) for employers, given that mothers and fathers with healthier babies have to leave work less often to care them. 7

Voice your support for the Breastfeeding Promotion Act today:
This link is easy – just click and answer a couple of questions. Answer back when you completed it and pass on to all your friends and family. Also you can handwrite a letter.

I’m not voting on anything like that.

If a woman wants to breast feed, she will find the time, resources, and information to. If she doesn’t want to for whatever reason, that’s her option too.

I talked to a woman who was working at a shoe store, she was gushing about how she was breastfeeding her 3 month old. She still worked. She still breast fed. She was probably pumping or whatever.

Point is, you shouldn’t force this dog doo doo down people’s throats. People have a choice. You don’t make that choice for them.

And no, breast feeding does not automatically make a woman a ‘perfect’ mom. Breast feeding is just feeding a baby.

“Breastfed babies have a lower risk of infection, obesity, diabetes, and other health problems.”

Not true, and there are MANY, MANY examples that prove this. Myths are myths, but as long as there are promoters of the myths, there will be people to believe them.

Don’t pump off the colostrum because you will send a false signal to your body and you will stop making colostrum and start making milk… Although breastmilk is fantastic, colostrum is the really good stuff for your newborn… Aside from that, you will stmulate the nipples and produce Oxytocin which can cause your uterus to contract and bring about labour…

Rated best out of all answers:

You might have a bit of colostrum. But you don’t want to pump that off, because that is what you want your baby to get as soon as he/she is born. Generally, your milk would dry up around the fifth month of pregnancy (if you are still nursing your first) and then will start to come in again around month 7 of pregnancy. But it should stay colostrum until the baby is born, since the breasts are aware there is no one eating off of them yet. So, no, don’t pump before the baby is born. It would mess with the natural production of milk.

If you plan to breast feed, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT pump until you absolutely have to. It will take a tremendous toll on your breasts, I promise. I didn’t pump until about 5 1/2 weeks after my daughter was born because i had to go back to school after 6 weeks and she needed to eat while i was gone. When I first started breastfeeding I went through about a week of pain. You will go through the pain trust me. However 2 of my best friends pumped from the beginning. Their nipples bled, and scabbed up. They cried when they fed their babies. Breast pumps will tear your nipples up if your nipples are not used to it yet. I waited til mine were used to it. You should too. It makes things alot easier.

You can certainly start pumping now. You will get colostrum. I expressed prior to my baby being born and collected the tiny amounts of colostrum in syringes, placed them in the freezer and then took them to hospital with me when I was to deliver. If for some reason you are unable to feed your baby immediately after birth or if your baby has glucose problems, this colostrum can be used instead of the formula that many hospitals will give a newborn. Giving a newborn formula can lead to a lot of problems.

I have provided you with a great link where lots of women give tips on how to express and store the colostrum. Good luck.

There’s nothing wrong with leaking. It’s not going to hurt your milk supply when you have your baby. Do not pump and and store the milk. It’s not real milk.

Your breasts will increase in size temporarily while you breastfeed. During the fist couple months you get engorged – which is kind of like being swollen. They’re going to be full of milk. This will decrease as your milk supply regulates and your breasts will go back to normal.

If you want larger breasts, permanently, you’ll probably have to wait until after you’re done having children have have a breast enlargement. However, some women’s breasts do get bigger even after the baby weans. Mine actually got smaller.

I know this sounds weird but has anyone started pumping before their baby was born?

I am leaking like crazy with this pregnancy, my baby will be here in 2months and I was wondering if it would be safe to start pumping and freezing the milk? I know that you can store breast milk in the freezer for up to 3 months but I want to know if it is ok to be pumping now? I just am tired of leaking and think that this may help stop it or at least slow it down. Thank you.

No, nipple stimulation induces labor. Beyond that, causing your milk to regulate and be used means your hormones change, no only causing labor, but causing your baby to miss out on the colostrum it needs to survive.

Dont pump until baby is here.
